There's something extremely comforting about baking a large batch of cookies. I’m not quite sure what it is, but I just love having the time to make something that we can enjoy whilst in the house and also take to friends and family, especially at this time of year.

My Christmas sugar cookies are my favourite biscuit to bake. They’re so simple to make and everyone that tries them loves them. Here’s my recipe for sugar cookies for you to enjoy ahead of Christmas.

You’ll need:

4oz (110g) plain flour

2 1/2oz (80g) butter or margarine

1oz (30g) caster sugar, plus extra for sprinkling

Preheat the oven to 150° C (fan assisted).

Start by sieving the flour and rubbing in the butter or margarine. Next, add the sugar and knead until the mixture forms a smooth ball which can shaped without crumbling.

Roll out carefully and cut into small rounds or your preferred shape - I like using these cutters. Put the cut out biscuits onto a lined baking sheet and bake in the oven until they're lightly coloured.

Remove from the oven and whilst still warm sprinkle with sugar to give them a little Christmas sparkle.
